Don’t Wait Until Exit to Build a More Valuable Business

Only 39% of businesses survive beyond five years.

So here’s a question worth asking at your next conference:
What if the decisions that make a business more valuable one day could also make it a better business, with stronger performance today?

Where my story starts
At 17, I landed a job I loved with a start-up. I learned about sales, marketing, systems and operations, and I soaked up every bit of it.
Within three years, the business folded.
I lost my job, but I knew I’d find another one. What stayed with me was the business owner. I felt for them, and I kept asking myself what could have been done differently with the numbers, the sales and the cash flow.
That experience taught me something I’ve never forgotten: in business, you learn as much from failure as you do from success.

What I bring to the stage today
Now I have something I didn’t have at 17: a toolbox of strategies, solutions and hard-won experience from a 30-year career and from owning my own businesses, with a track record of success.
I’ve launched businesses, helped founders scale and strengthened businesses. I’ve also worked alongside owners to make changes that created more value today, and greater value when the time came to exit.

The message franchising often misses
Too often, business value only gets serious attention when someone is thinking about selling. By then, the best opportunities to build it may have been lost.
That’s the heart of my talk:

Build for tomorrow, not just today™
Don’t wait until exit to build a more valuable business.
The same foundations that make a business attractive to a buyer also make it stronger, more resilient and more profitable right now. In franchising, that matters at every level, because stronger franchisee businesses build stronger franchise networks.

Who this session is for
The session works for emerging and established franchise networks alike, including:
• Franchise conferences: a keynote or breakout session for your 2027 event
• Regional meetings: a focused session to get franchisees thinking about long-term value
• Franchisee workshops: practical ideas franchisees can take back to their business and put to work
