Every Business Leader Needs Someone in Their Corner

By Sue Moore

Business leaders and founders need someone in their corner.
Leading a business can be a lonely role. The bigger the decisions, the fewer people there often are to talk them through with. That's why one of the most rewarding parts of my work is supporting business founders, Managing Directors and senior leaders.

Strategy is only half the story
Much of my advisory work is strategic. It focuses on growth, performance and profitability, and on building stronger businesses.
But there's another side to the work that's equally important: being a trusted, confidential sounding board.

That means being someone who:
• Listens, properly and without judgement
• Challenges thinking, so decisions are tested before they're made
• Shares experience from years of working with businesses facing similar challenges
• Helps leaders navigate difficult decisions with clarity and confidence

Supporting the leader, not just the business
I was delighted to receive these words from the CEO of GreenThumb:
"Sue's contribution to operational and strategic projects was repeatedly of high standard and dedication including supporting me in my role leading the business. Within franchising Sue is an expert."

During this appointment, we worked together to deliver a transformation programme focused on strengthening business performance and collaboration.
What stands out to me in that feedback is the recognition of both sides of the role. The operational and strategic work mattered. So did the support for the person leading the business through it.

Why the people matter as much as the numbers
Great business results matter enormously. But so do the people leading those businesses.
When leaders feel supported, they make clearer decisions, lead their teams with more confidence and are better placed to see change through. Knowing I've helped a leader feel that way is every bit as rewarding as seeing the numbers and relationships improve.

And that's what makes this work so fulfilling.

If you're a founder, Managing Director or senior leader and would value someone in your corner, let's talk.
